Praxis Award & Show
Curated by: Praxis Directors
Theme: MOTION > BLUR
Opening Reception: Saturday Feb 19th 6-8pm
Exhibition Dates: Feb 19th – Mar 5th, 2022
In most cases, photography is used to “freeze time,” with a still image. Motion in photography creates a paradox: the image is a frozen moment in time but what is captured is an object that is a blur of motion – an apparent streaking, bending, distorting and /or movement of light and objects in the foreground or background of the image frame. Blur can demonstrate the velocity of movement. It can convey the emotional dimensions of the subject photographed; presenting dream like qualities by invoking the surreal and transitory nature of time passing. Meteors streak across the sky, ghostly figures move through a room, the artist paints shapes with a light source. These are some examples of how blur represents motion in photography.
Praxis Gallery presents photographic art that demonstrates the fundamental qualities that make motion & blur a compelling element of contemporary photography.
Press: Presidents Day Show featured in Vogue at the Snow Lodge Aspen
The Snow Lodge—the winter sister of Montauk’s perennially trendy Surf Lodge—will open a supper club at the St. Regis Aspen in partnership with Stephane De Baets of Elevated Returns. This isn’t your run-of-the-mill supper club, mind you: New York City’s Dante, the world’s official best bar in 2019, will be crafting cocktails. The walls will be adorned with artworks from Heart Evangelista, Zoe Buckman, photographers Brandon Ralph and Brian Bowen Smith, as well as artist and Incubus front man Brandon Boyd. Then there’s the music, of course: The Snow Lodge Supper Club will host a concert series that already has singer-songwriter Léon and Jake Wesley Rogers on the lineup. “After spending last winter locked down, we wanted to bring people back together in an intimate setting and create unforgettable experiences. We think The Snow Lodge will be the perfect place to do just that,” Jayma Cardoso, founder and creative director of The Surf Lodge tells Vogue.
Leica Ambassador & M11 Launch
Leica made me an Ambassador of the brand to launch their flagship camera, the M11 along side Ralph Gibson, & Devin Allen. As part of this Partnership I created a 3min Promotional Film, 20 Unique Images to be displayed at all the Leica Galleries Worldwide. On launch day I gave 4 of the 6 talks about my work, process and the camera.

Brandon Ralph Tells Gail Buckland About His American Experiment
How do you capture the idea of America? This question, among others, is the central theme in Brandon Ralph’s latest project, titled The American Experiment. The New York-based photographer traveled throughout the U.S. to document the people and motifs that make up this nation. By investigating the notion of patriotism, Ralph challenges what it means to be an American and the symbols that this country represents. To discuss his traveling journeys and the inspiration for the project, Brandon Ralph sat down with his friend and fellow artist Gail Buckland.
Leica Conversations
Join us for a conversation with Brandon Ralph & Mathieu Bitton about his body of work "The American Experiment." During a time in our culture when the idea of what makes one an American is a topic of heated debate. Presenting a vast and varied look at the country and offers an opportunity for the viewer to reexamine the myriad incarnations of patriotism.

David Totah Gallery
Totah presents Polarities, a group exhibition spanning film, photography, sculpture, drawing, and painting, as well as more interstitial media. Polarities features 47 artists, both historical and living. The idea of the exhibition began with a black and white photograph taken in Detroit by Brandon Ralph. Extending upon the visual themes captured in this work, Polarities overlaps, combines, and gently teases out the dichotomies between black and white scales of coloration, welcoming contrast as much as fulfillment in extremes.
Artists featured in Polarities: Eve Aschheim, David Austen, Robert Baras, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Lisa Beck, Isak Berbic, Mel Bochner, Alighiero Boetti, William Eric Brown, Alberto Burri, Huguette Caland, Enrico Castellani, Vija Celmins, Anne Collier, George Condo, Dan Covert, Gino De Dominicis, Adeline de Monseignat, Mara De Luca, Aleksandar Duravcevic, TR Ericsson, Alison Hall, Keith Haring, Adam Henry, Samuel Jablon, R.B.
